LG Display, a leading name in screen technology, has just unveiled its most advanced stretchable display prototype, capable of expanding, twisting, and folding up to 50% of its original size. This marks a major breakthrough compared to the first stretchable display prototype launched in 2022, which had a maximum expansion limit of 20%.
New stretchable display technology

The event was held at LG Science Park in Seoul, where LG Display officially introduced its new stretchable display prototype. This screen measures 12 inches but can extend up to 18 inches, boasting a resolution of 100 pixels per inch (ppi) and full RGB color capability. It utilizes 40μm micro-LED technology, enhancing durability and stability, allowing the screen to withstand over 10,000 stretches without damage.
This marks a significant advancement over LG’s earlier stretchable display, launched in 2022, which could only stretch by 20%. This innovation showcases LG’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of flexible and stretchable display technology.

A standout feature of the stretchable display is its exceptional flexibility, enabling it to adhere seamlessly to curved or irregular surfaces like clothing or skin. This unique adaptability opens up a wide range of potential applications across fields such as fashion, wearable devices, and mobile technology. The ability to integrate with everyday items and wearable tech paves the way for innovative user experiences and functionality, offering screens that can blend into fabric or even move with the user, expanding the possibilities for interactive displays in dynamic environments.
Future Potential
This stretchable display prototype is the outcome of a national project led by South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE) since 2020, involving the collaboration of 19 research organizations. LG Display was tasked with leading this initiative, aiming to develop cutting-edge technologies for the next generation of display screens.

Through improvements in special silicon structure and the development of new wiring technology, LG Display has successfully enhanced the screen’s stretchability to 50%, significantly surpassing the original goal of 20%. This technology not only boosts flexibility but also opens up major potential for the widespread application of stretchable displays in practical uses.

LG Display collaborated with prominent Korean designers such as Youn-Hee Park, founder of Greedilous, and Chung-Chung Lee, co-founder of LIE, to showcase stretchable display-integrated fashion collections at Seoul Fashion Week 2025 S/S. Models will wear clothing embedded with stretchable displays that can dynamically change designs and colors in real time, highlighting the flexibility of the technology.
Beyond fashion, LG Display is also exploring various applications for stretchable displays, including transformable automotive panels and wearable screens for firefighters, which can provide live information in the field.
Future Development
LG Display is committed to continuing its efforts in developing sustainable display technologies in the future through close collaboration with stakeholders. Soo-young Yoon, Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of LG Display, shared, “We will continue to build an advanced and sustainable display technology ecosystem while enhancing South Korea’s competitive capabilities in the global market.”
